An enamel paint formula combines alkyd resin, pigment, solvent and driers into a solvent-based paint that dries to a hard, glossy film. Here you will find the groups, the mixing order and the checks for synthetic enamel. Gloss enamel paint ingredients are simple, but the balance between them sets gloss and drying.

Alkyd enamel recipe follows a premix, grind and let-down route.

We tune formulas with you for your raw materials, grade and climate, and support your lab trials and scale-up to plant batches. For synthetic enamel formulas, formulation development and technology transfer are supported by IPCS (Indian Paints Consulting Service).

Applications of Enamel Paint Formula

Enamel is chosen for a hard, glossy finish on wood and metal.

  • Wood and metal finishes
  • Doors, grills and furniture
  • Machinery and industrial paint
  • Gloss and semi-gloss finishes

Mixing order for enamel paint batches

  1. Charge resin, part of the solvent and pigment into the disperser vessel
  2. Pre-mix at high speed
  3. Grind in a bead or basket mill until the grind gauge reaches the target
  4. Move to a let-down tank and add resin, solvent and driers
  5. Add anti-skin agent and adjust viscosity
  6. Filter and fill

Quality targets for enamel paint

  • Fineness of grind on a Hegman gauge
  • Gloss
  • Viscosity
  • Drying time
  • Hardness
  • Colour against the approved sample

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an enamel paint formula with percentage?

Exact percentages depend on your resin, pigment and gloss target, so we set them with you through formulation consultancy.

How to make synthetic enamel paint?

Pre-mix pigment with resin and solvent, grind to the target fineness, then let down with resin, solvent and driers.

What is an alkyd enamel driers and solvent ratio?

The drier and solvent levels set drying time and flow. They are tuned in trials with your resin.

What is a gloss enamel paint ingredients list?

Alkyd resin, pigments, solvent, driers and additives.
